This cosy fishing village, with its stately merchant houses and richly decorated façades, is a popular water sports location. Many pleasure yachts travel through Makkum’s old lock every year. Makkum is a real tourist attraction with its many terraces, cosy restaurants and nice little shops. There is a market every week during the summer and summer evening fairs are also regularly organised. Makkum beach is well known as a Walhalla for windsurfers. The shallow water and ever-present wind are ideal conditions for them. Children simply won’t have enough time for everything. They can have fun on the beach, or in one of the many playgrounds or sports fields. You also have the option of hiring children’s bikes, carts, canoes, motor boats or cool go-karts if you feel like going out for the day.
